The Black Spruce is an arboreal species belonging to the Pinaceae family native to North America, from the Island of Newfoundland to western Alaska.
It is a slow-growing, upright coniferous species. It is a small tree, evergreen, with a straight trunk, a disheveled-looking crown, narrow with rather short hanging branches and with the tips upturned.
Cone-shaped cones are the smallest of all firs, black spruce differing from white spruce in that the needles are shorter and the cones smaller.
The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves.
Historically, Black Spruce AE has been valued for its properties such as:
Antibacterial, Anti-inflammatory, Antifungal, Expectorant.
